Spielwarenmesse eG provides welfare institutions with new toys

Nuremberg-based Spielwarenmesse eG has been donating toys to welfare institutions in Franconia and the SOS Children’s Villages in Germany for more than forty years. Around 30 pallets of cuddly toys, board games and wooden toys were made available by more than 800 exhibitors at the last Spielwarenmesse which opened its doors at the beginning of 2020. The official handover to St. Markus’ nursery school, which accepted the gifts on behalf of the many other beneficiaries, was delayed until this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and finally took place on 28 September.

The traditional charity campaign is a matter close to the heart of the world’s leading toy fair. “Children are the future of our society – that’s why we want to contribute to their development and bring them joy through various projects. We’re very grateful for the support we receive from our exhibitors,” explained Christian Ulrich. The Spokesperson of the Executive Board at Spielwarenmesse eG handed the toys over to St. Markus’ nursery school in nearby Oberasbach in person. Much to the delight of the children, he was assisted by Teena, the Spielwarenmesse mascot.

The educational focus of this institution is on giving children the space they need to play freely whilst allowing them to express themselves as individuals in a safe and trusted environment. Toys play an important role in implementing this multi-facetted educational approach. Monika Zakel, head of the nursery school, commented: “All these wonderful innovative products enable us to add variety to our everyday activities in the groups. We and, of course, the children are so grateful for the generous donations and the professional way in which it has all been organised!”
