The perfect entry point to the international games scene: registration opens for Game Inventors Convention at the Spielwarenmesse

  • Games newcomers meet international games publishers
  • Information stand with face-to-face advice at SPIEL in Essen

The Internationale Spieleerfindermesse – Game Inventors Convention enters its second round. Following a successful premiere at this year’s Spielwarenmesse, the event will take place again on Friday 2 February 2024 at the Exhibition Centre. Registration opens at the start of SPIEL Essen, where authors can find comprehensive information on the Game Inventors Convention. In Nuremberg, they will be presenting their games ideas to domestic and international publishers this time on Level 1 in NCC Mitte. The GamingHour that follows the conclusion of the fair provides opportunities for communication and represents the high point of the networking event.

International level

The Spielwarenmesse is the meeting point for individuals who are filled with the spirit of invention – that much was evident from this year’s fully booked Game Inventors Convention, with over 140 participants from some 20 countries. “The strong demand demonstrates games authors’ need for an appropriate event at an international level,” says Christian Ulrich, Spokesperson of the Executive Board at Spielwarenmesse eG. The organiser has support from two experienced experts: Tom Werneck – founder of the Game Inventors Convention and Chair of the Board of the Bavarian Games Archive – and his colleague Christian Fürst-Brunner.

Registration made easy

Anticipation begins to build up at SPIEL in Essen, a subsidiary organisation of Spielwarenmesse eG. From 5 to 8 October at Stand 6B406 in Hall 6, the creative game inventors’ scene has the opportunity to pick up information directly and at first hand from those responsible for the Spielwarenmesse. Registration is possible either on site or, from 5 October, on the website www.spielwarenmesse.de/en/gic. Every games author who leaves their contact details in the box provided will be entered into a prize draw for a games table at the Game Inventors Convention in Nuremberg. This popular draw thus opens up the possibility of taking part free of change.

Same day, new location

Enthusiasm for one of the sought-after games tables is rising. Embedded in the international Spielwarenmesse network, the Game Inventors Contention takes place on the Friday, this time in the NCC Mitte on Level 1. In the Brussels and Munich halls and in the foyer, space is being provided for discussions among everyone involved in the process of creating games, including the specialist press and content creators. Inventors can take advantage of on-site professional support and the ability to give a short presentation of their prototypes, while the editorial teams from the games publishers can very quickly gain a broad overview of innovative games in various different genres – just a few metres away from their own stands. From 6 to 10 pm, the games industry is invited to the GamingHour with its local Franconian snacks, for networking and more playing. At the same event, on the stage in the Brussels Hall, the ‘DuAli’ game prize will also be awarded.

“At the first event, this evening gathering was very well received by the 300 participants. Over relaxed discussions, the stage was often set for the next game to be published. We are pleased to be supporting this pooled power of innovation again,” concludes Christian Ulrich.
